As you may be aware, written content is king when it comes to marketing your website and gaining traction on Google and the major search engines. It all starts by adding articles to your blog on a constant and consistent basis. The bottom line is that Google ranks websites based on two (2) main factors. They are the frequency in which you post your written content and the quality of the written content. That means you need to post new written content on your website on a constant and consistent basis. It also means the written content that you post must meet Google’s criteria for quality written content.

The second part is where it gets a bit confusing for most people. What exactly is Google looking for? First and foremost, blog articles are the fastest, easiest, and most effective way to add written content to your website on a constant and consistent basis. That being stated, there is a laundry list of things that Google wants to see in your articles. They are as follows and listed in order of importance. According to Google proper page optimization is key. Page optimization refers to the Meta tags and title of your blog articles.

Did you know that keywords have all but been phased out? That means the meta title tag is now the most important way to key phrase or optimize any written content that is published on your website. In essence, Google looks for certain criteria whenever you publish a blog article on your website. When Google sees that you have included the specific criteria they give the page or post a point so to speak, which boosts your website higher in the rankings. So what exactly are the Google criteria that will help you gain these points?

  1. First and foremost, the titles of your blog articles should be a maximum of 60 characters.
  2. The Title of the article or focus keyword phrase should also appear in the url.
  3. The focus keyword phrase should appear in the first paragraph of the blog article or page content.
  4. The content of the blog article or page should be relevant to the focus keyword phrase.
  5. The images within the blog article or on the page should have the keyword phrase in the alt text.

There are a few other important things to look out for that will help boost your website in the Google rankings. Your website should always have an SLL certificate. The blog article or page post should include a link out to another page. The link should be the main focus keyword phrase for the page. In addition, the page that it links to should contain relevant content and be external to a relevant website. The links on the page should be bold. Once again, Google wants to see that pages are being added to your website on a regular basis.

Of course, each blog article is considered to be a new page. The page or blog articles need to be original content that is not copied from another source. If your website has text that is copied from another source Google will ban your website and black list it from the search engine. The old method of over stuffing written content with keywords now has a reverse affect, so stay away from that altogether. The bottom line is that too many different keywords or keywords that appear too many times on a page or blog article is bad for website ranking purposes.

Last but certainly not least, it’s’ important to understand that Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short, is completely organic. That means the only way to achieve it is by optimizing your website’s blog articles and pages so that your website will appear higher in Google.
